Electronic Industries Alliance
Connecting the industries that define the digital age

September 6, 2000

The Honorable Richard Gephardt
Minority Leader
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Gephardt:

Our nation's high technology industries are key to our prosperity. The industry has created millions of jobs in recent years and helped foster the highest standard of living in history. It's clear, our economy's strength is tied to the digital age. For that reason, EIA actively supports legislation to alleviate the current shortage of skilled workers and to allow key sectors, such as the high technology industry, to maintain the growth and job creation that have been key to America's booming economy.

Democrat Representatives in the House have offered non-germane amendments to the bi-partisan HI-TECH ACT (HR 3983), legislation that is critically important to the high technology industry. These amendments make passage of that legislation, which we actively support, most difficult.

While we are sympathetic to the issues raised by your colleagues, we urge that these issues be completely de-linked from H-lB legislation and addressed on their own merit.

Sincerely,

Dave McCurdy
President
