People and Appointments

11/15. President Obama nominated Mark Mazur to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Policy. See, White House news office release and release. He is currently Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax Analysis.

11/15. The Senate confirmed Yvonne Rogers to be a Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California by a vote of 89-6. See, Roll Call No. 207. See also, Congressional Record, November 15, 2011, at Page S7585. She has been a California state trial court judge, in Alameda County, since 2008. She previously worked for the law firm of Cooley Godward.

11/15. The Senate confirmed Sharon Gleason to be a Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska by a vote of 87-8. See, Roll Call No. 206. See also, Congressional Record, November 15, 2011, at Page S7585.

11/15. Arthur Levinson was named non-executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Apple. He has been a Director since 2005. Apple also named Robert Iger, P/CEO of The Walt Disney Company, to the Board of Directors of Apple. See, Apple release.

11/15. The U.S. District Court (EDPenn) unsealed an indictment that changes Michael Moore with criminal copyright infringement in connection with his involvement with web sites that sold DVDs containing copies of broadcast hockey games. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated in a release that "HDHOCKEY.TV was a website that offered for sale DVDs containing recordings of copyrighted television broadcasts of hockey games and other copyrighted works such as team and player profiles, from the National Hockey League (NHL) and other professional hockey leagues." The release also states that "BROADSTREETBULLY.COM was a website offering for sale monthly subscriptions that enabled subscribers to download an unlimited number of video clips of copyrighted television broadcasts of hockey games, and other copyrighted works such as team and player profiles, from the NHL and other professional hockey leagues."
