House Judiciary Committee
Approves HR 2652
(March 25, 1998) The House Judiciary Committee approved with several minor and technical amendments the Collections of Information Anti-Piracy Act. This database protection bill passed by voice vote without objection.
The bill enjoys bipartisan support on the Judiciary Committee. It is likely to be voted on by the House sometime soon after the Spring recess, according to Committee staff. The Congress will return on April 21.
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC). The House Subcommittee on Courts and Intellectual Property held two hearings on the bill. On March 18 the Subcommittee passed a significantly revised version of the original bill.
